My updates to Robin's website were focused on information flow. He identified mailing list sign ups as the primary objective of his website, so I added CTAs to direct the audience's attention to the sign up form. He also wanted to redesign his blog page with a content-forward design focused on intuitive UX.

Fixes

I fixed layout and responsiveness issues on the homepage. Wordpress was setting mobile breakpoints in ways that either squished the content or added unnecessary whitespace. I edited the content to be aesthetically pleasing, with an appropriate amount of space between sections and images. I also shifted Jetpack’s content around and fixed some plugin conflicts with PHP code.

New Blog Page

Robin wanted a new blog page that focused on his writing content (rather than, say, images). He wanted a UX-forward approach, so his audience could find blog posts based on category.

I put a hero at the top with a description of his blog page, a newsletter sign up form, and two buttons, so the user could jump to view either: the latest posts, or all posts by category.

I followed this with a few feautured articles Robin wanted to call attention to. Following that are the articles by category. This has an accordion structure as to be organized and not overwhelm the user. Each category is an accordion element, which the user can expand to see the latest content in the category, there is also a link to view the category page with all the posts in that category.

The final section has the latest posts regardless of category.

This layout is designed to call attention to new/featured content, as well as the mailing list sign up form, as new sign ups are Robin’s primary goal. And the content itself is displayed intuitively, so the user can direct their experience: either by viewing the latest content, or browsing by category

Wordpress Customization

This design was only achievable with custom elements as well as custom PHP. Elementor and/or custom plugins are not enough on their own to achieve this level of custom content.
